I'll let you in on a secret - it's going to be a mini-contest open only to members of Teach-Me-Manips and TheArtOfManipulation! There's a twist to it as well, but you'll have to wait for the official announcement for details!

Advanced Blending

Part 1

For the first part of A3, we're going to be completing a tutorial by FP-Digital-Art (Fabrizio Panattoni). While I'd like you to follow the tutorial, I also want to encourage you to incorporate what you've learned in the previous tutorials and add your own style to the work. Below is an example of what I mean - the original work from the tutorial and my version.

I decided to start completing the tutorials myself before posting them here so that I can better address any issues or questions that you may have while working on the assignment. I did have a couple of problems with this tutorial:

First, you'll notice that the moon/star texture used in the tutorial contains stock from sxc - as we all (should) know by now, sxc stock is not allowed to be used to create stock (first problem) and is not allowed to be used in manips without written permission from the photographer (second problem). Therefore, I recreated the moon/star texture myself.It's up to you, but if you do the same, the stocks I used to make the texture are listed in the artist comments of my deviation.

I had trouble getting "Sky 1" from the tutorial to download properly so I improvised. If you have the same problem (or if you just want to) you can replace "Step 11" of the tut with the following:

Part 2

For part 2, we're going to be creating an sci-fi/apocalyptic piece using this tutorial. This tut is a little more difficult in my opinion, but I'm confident that you guys can handle it. Once again, if you go to the last page of the tutorial, there will be a link to a .psd you can use for reference.

Remember to work at 300dpi & check/change the resolution of each stock before placing it in the new document.

Upload your first version of each part of A3 to your stash for feedback from your mentor before uploading your final version.

Deadline: October 23, 2013 This is the deadline for all parts of the assignment

Include in your title "A3" and "P1/P2/P3"

In your artist statement, credit the original artist, link to the tutorial, each of the stocks used, and Teach-Me-Manips.

Optional: Include on the bottom of your image(s) something like: "Original Artwork by (Artist), Recreated by (YourName) - I think this is a good way to be able to post our work using tutorials while still recognizing and crediting the original artist.
